How to Line your Drawers with Wallpaper

Using leftover wallpaper to update your drawers adds style, protects surfaces, and gives scraps a second life in an eco-friendly way. Petra recently transformed her daughter’s chest of drawers with Poles and Roses Wallpaper from a photoshoot, creating a feminine backdrop for her clothes. Follow these steps to give your drawers a similar makeover:

Measure the Drawer: Start by measuring the length and width of your drawer’s bottom to determine how much wallpaper you’ll need.

Cut the Wallpaper: Use your measurements to cut a piece of wallpaper that fits snugly inside the drawer, leaving a small margin on each side.

Prep the Surface: Clean the drawer thoroughly to remove dust, dirt, or residue, ensuring a smooth, adhesive-friendly surface.

Apply Adhesive (if needed): If you’re using non-adhesive wallpaper, apply a thin layer of wallpaper paste or double-sided tape to the back of the cut piece.

Place the Wallpaper: Gently position the wallpaper inside the drawer, starting at one end and carefully smoothing it down to avoid air bubbles.

Trim Excess: If needed, trim any excess wallpaper around the edges using a craft knife for a neat finish.

Press and Smooth: Press down on the wallpaper to ensure it sticks well, smoothing out any bubbles or wrinkles.

Allow to Set: Let the wallpaper set and dry (if adhesive is used) before putting anything back in the drawer.

Finishing Touch: Add a few sprays of Santa Maria Novella’s Carta d’Armenia "Paper to Scent” to the wallpaper lining of your drawers, and you’ll be enveloped in a delicate veil of fragrance — a gentle caress that evokes freshness and quiet elegance.
