Mood Boards for The Flagship

I'm a very visual person, I need to map out everything as it helps my thought process and gets me from A to B. Drawing over plans and mood boarding are really important practices for me. In this post, I'll be showing you the mood boards of inspiration I put together at the beginning of my journey in designing The Flagship, although they aren't exact representations of the current set up, they do still have the essence of what I was trying to achieve.

MY STUDIO

My studio sits on the corner of the building, it was previously the bank manager's office. There are three very large arched windows that flood the space with light. With this in mind, I wanted the decor to remain airy and relatively simple as it would be filled with my samples and inspirational cork wall for mood boarding which would add lots to it visually. I opted for a super long plain white Ikea floating sideboard (which is actually a TV bench) and fitted it with Beata Heuman's rope pulls and knobs, the MDF shelves that sit above it are lightly stained in a white wash and are attached to 12 inch cast iron brackets are from Yester Home, the walls are painted in the most gorgeous pink called 1829 Alhambra Stone by Craig & Rose and I had a custom made mid-century Sputnik inspired chandelier to add some colour. I absolutely love my studio, it's honestly so inspiring being in it and you can see I wasn't too far off my initial mood board.

The Shop Floor

The front doors are painted in Light Olive Green, it’s the perfect shade. As you enter through them, the colour sets the the scene for what’s to come...

William Morris’ Honeysuckle Wallpaper (an ode to my hero designer) splashes the main wall and I pulled out key colours from the wallpaper and reflected them throughout the space.
I bought both the large reclaimed dresser (and  painted it in EB Light Olive Greenand the butcher's block table that is used as our counter from PC Pirates Furniture. The gold pair of Danish vintage pendant lamps Lyskaer 1980s I bought from Vinterior, they add a touch of fun over the worktop and catch the light.
Nestled to the side of the store you’ll find my ever-evolving curation space complete with two very large original alcoves (which we found whilst renovating) that have been fitted with antique mirror and shelves either side of the fireplace. I found a very large fire surround on gumtree for £50 (I had an alert on my phone for fire surrounds within a 15 mile radius and this one came up) and I painted it Pompadour. It immediately adds some oomph to the space but also complements my blue and white Delft Tiles that decorate fireplace and the greener side to The Flagship.

Buff is painted on the big wall in the curation space where a large open freestanding unit sits against it filled with my treasures. It’s the perfect background as it has enough tonal warmth to make an impact but not too much to take away from my wares. I wanted to find a colour that would draw inspiration from the natural earthiness of the Scottish landscape and also tie in with the William Morris wallpaper.
